President Lori Frederick called the meeting to order at 6:59 pm

Welcome

Lori welcomed everyone with a “Happy Fall Ya’ll” and a welcome to our guests.

Announcements

Sit n Sew’s are scheduled for Oct 24th, Nov 14th and Dec 12th. There will be no sit n sew on Nov 28th due to the Thanksgiving holiday. We will have our potluck dinner at our Dec meeting on the 8th. Guild will provide the meat with members providing sides and desserts.

Quilt of Valor

We currently have names in our queue and will be planning a ceremony after the first of the year, no date set at this time.  There is now a QR code in the files section of our FB page that allows for nominations to receive a Quilt of Valor.

The Nest

Our November meeting will feature our “Diaper Drive” to benefit The Nest. Diapers in sizes 3,4,5 and 6 are most needed, but any size will be appreciated.  They also need baby wipes, pacifiers, bath wash, baby lotion and baby video monitors. These are only suggestions. Please bring pocket hearts in pink, blue or pastel colors. Door prize tickets will be given for each item you bring. We will have ladies from The Nest with us at our November meeting.

Ryan’s Case for Smiles

Lori has pillowcase kits ready for sewing. She plans to have these available at the next Sit n Sew.

Pinky Promise

Please continue to make pocket hearts in pink, if possible, for donation to Pinky Promise as well.

Treasurer’s Report

Balance as of today $ 6,857.30

Devotion

Elaine Wilkerson presented “The Comfort of Quilts” as our devotion.

Programs

Sara Aicher thanked everyone for bringing in their baby quilts as part of our October Start Up topic. November topic is Stuffed Animals; this is a suggestion. Feel free to bring other stuffed items you have made or been gifted as well.  Our Nov program will be on Art Quilts and be led by Lisa Maechtlen. She will address various techniques used in this process.

During our “Meet the Members” time we heard from Lori Frederick and Vicki Skahill.

Sara presented information regarding a new category for the Gingerbread Extravaganza as they are seeking new builders. The new category is “Tiny Town” and Sara has kits available for purchase if interested. Delivery is Dec 2nd and the show will be Dec 13th through 27th.

Sara presented our speaker for the evening, Daniel Ward. Mr Ward is a Certified Sewing Machine Technician from Rest Assured Repairs & Services, LLC- Keystone Heights, FL.

Mr. Ward provided a wealth of information concerning Needle selection, Thread weights, Thread quality, Maintenance and so much more. We were shown an in depth slide show on the process used by a professional sewing machine technician.

Key things WE can do to keep our machine running well.

Change the needle regularly- every 8 to 12 hours of sewing time. Approximately every 3 bobbins. Remove needle plate, bobbin and bobbin casing to clear “fluff”. Do NOT use Air. Vacuum- Yes.  Keep the machine covered when not in use.

Other Items of Interest

Lori advised us that Eileen Van Fossen has resigned as Membership Chair. Sabrina Faircloth has accepted the Membership Chair position. Eileen and Glenda Stonecipher will work with her through the transition.

Door prizes were given, and we had Show N Tell.

Lori gave a reminder to those who submitted an entry to Quiltfest to bring them to the Nov meeting.

Lori adjourned the meeting at 8:57 pm.
