Country Star Quilt Guild Meeting Minutes
9/11/2023
Call to Order
President Lori Frederick opened the meeting at 7:01 PM
Member Recognitions
Lori recognized the Life Guild members that were present.
Recognized were: JoAnn Cisero, Ginny Ackerman, Nadine Loyd, and Ramona Lee.
Lori recognized the visitors present: Flor Constantino, Janice Vasile and Michelle Ajdinovich.
She then welcomed our new members: Deborah Dunman and Darlene Cole.
Order of Business
Housekeeping measures:
• Lori stated that the door to the outside of the building would be locked once our meeting began.
• Lizy Swain agreed to call 911 in the event of emergency
• Lisa Propper agreed to be available for first aid.
Other:
• Helen Henderson is providing “Ways & Means” this year.
• Mary Sperow is in charge of hospitality for the new year
• Lori did a recap of the summer challenge, with each member casting a vote for their favorite.
Opening Prayer & Devotion was led by Charlotte Taylor.
• Charlotte provided a purple “Thang” and candy for everyone present!!
Announcements:
• Our next Sit & Sew will be held on 9/22
• Our next regular meeting will be held on 10/9
1. Membership dues will need to be paid no later than the 10/9 meeting.
2. Non payment will result in removal from the Facebook group access
• Quiltfest will be held 9/14 thru 9/16
1. Dell Dunman, Sara Aicher, and Helen Henderson entered quilts at the show.
• The Callahan Fair will be held 10/7 thru 10/21
1. Peggy Smith is in charge of scheduling people to work our booth
2. All members are expected to purchase a minimum of $20 worth of tickets.
• Lori will start a BOM quilt next month. She showed (4) blocks that will be included. She stated
that we will need approx 20 fat quarters and 3-5 yds of background fabric.
• Sue Deyo announced the theme for the February retreat by dressing as a Hawaiian hula dancer.
She was joined by Ellie Bette and Anne Hines, who are assisting her with the retreat.
1. Sue announced that you could give her the $75 deposit along with your application at
tonights meeting. She encouraged everyone to get a buddy and share an iron this year.
2. The retreat dates are 2/27 thru 3/2 of next year.
Guild Supported Charities
• Elaine Wilkerson spoke about Ryans Cases for Smiles. She stated that:
1. The organization started in 2007 after a family lost a son to childhood cancer
2. The pillow cases must be 100% cotton. No flannel, glitter, nor skulls.
3. The pillow cases must be washed after they are made.
4. We have made between 1150 and 1200 over the past 5 years
5. We will have kits available next month
• JoAnn Cisero spoke about “The Nest”, a center for women and unplanned pregnancies. She
stated that:
1. We provide quilts, burp cloths, and bibs for the center.
2. They accept donations of diapers, bottles, formula, pacifiers, and other items.
3. They do ultrasounds & counseling
4. We will have a diaper drive for the center in November. They are in need of sizes 3&4 at
this time.
• Glenda Stonecipher spoke about Pinky Promise. She stated that:
1. Pinky Promise is located at the Rose Cottage in Callahan.
2. We provide quilts for women suffering from cancer and are having surgery or treatment
3. The women are given gas cards, grocery cards, wigs, bras, and other items (along with
much emotional support).
Programs
• Sara Archer and Peggy Smith told us about the programs planned for this year.
1. One program will be a workshop by Lisa Ruble.
2. Nikki Hill will be showing us how to plan an ART quilt
3. A Laura Heine representative will offer a workshop on collage quilting

Other Business
• President Lori announced the winners of the summer challenge “Viewers Choice”. This years
winners (A Tie Vote) are Sue Deyo and Sharon Propper.
• Lori also presented a “Presidents Choice” award. The winners were (A Tie Vote) Karen Hurst
and Tracey Calhoun.
• The “Opportunity Quilt” for this year was made by Lisa Maechtlen and Ellie Boette.
They brought a very stunning quilt for us to see!!!

Closing:
• A motion was made by Ellie Boette that the June Meeting minutes be approved. Seconded by
Elaine Wilkerson. Approved by all members present.
• Mary Sperow asked for volunteers to sign up to bring refreshments to the monthly meetings.
• Members presented their “Show & Tell” projects to the group.
• Door prizes were distributed
• The meeting was adjourned
