 Charities Report

  • Ryans Case for Smiles – Dane Ruser reported that to date, 198 pillowcases were received, considerably less than the guild’s annual goal. There was a reminder that the Friday Fun Sew planned for August 24 is a pillowcase blow-out.
  • The Nest – Mary Ann Waite reported that she had 15 crib sheets and two quilts were waiting to be quilted. Chris Sandstrom advised that for the Friday Fun Sew scheduled for June 22nd, she would demonstrate her method for making burp cloths and anyone who wanted to participate should bring a 3/4-yard piece of washed flannel and a fat quarter of coordinating cotton print for each burp cloth. Chris asked about a diaper drive to meet The Nest’s need; Sue Deyo stated it would be brought to the Board at its meeting Thursday.
  • Pinky Promise – Linda Green and Michelle Whitley advised that at this time, they did not need any more pillows.

 Programs/Challenges

  • Announcement of the UFO Challenge Winner – Mary Ann Waite announced that the winner was Chris Sandstrom, and she presented Chris with a check per the Challenge guidelines.
  • 2018-19 Programs – Gail Bowen stated that the Program Committee met in April and they have an activity-packed year planned. The Committee is scheduling speakers (one is already scheduled for March), a mystery trip is planned, and there are many fun things proposed for the year.

 Old Business

Sue Deyo reminded the guild members that Calico Stations was sponsoring a “Sisterhood of the Traveling Quilts” trip for August 10/11 for $225.00.  Members should make their own arrangements. For further info: http://www.calicostation.com/module/class.htm?classId=229333

 New Business

  • Tuesday Sit‘n’Sews. Sue Deyo explained that since the guild ended it’s arrangement with Kelley’s RV Park, they did not ask the church for Tuesday dates, and we now have two Friday Fun Sew days a month, the Tuesday Sit’n’Sew was ending.
  • Sue Deyo advised that Miss D’s Quilt Shop in Palatka is sponsoring a “Patchwork Bus Trip” for July 20/21st. The bus trip is headed to the Fort Myers area and will visit six Fabric Shops. The cost is $190.00 that includes bus, hotel and all food.  Make reservations by 7/6. For further info: http://www.missdsquilts.com/

Sue Deyo emphasized that since Pinky Promise is a charity supported by the guild, the members of the guild would want to interact with the organization in other ways.
  • Regarding the NE Florida Fair, Sue Deyo explained the guild will have a quilt to raffle and we will sell raffle tickets at the fair.
  • Regarding the Presentation of Quilt to the VA Hospital, Sue Deyo said she did not have the date yet but suggested a potential road trip to encourage guild member participation in the presentation and include visits to local quilt shops. The guild members were advised that the Trenton Quilt Shop had changed hands and is open for business. Sue will look into accommodations in Lake City for those who wish to stay after the presentation.

A brief word of encouragement

Sue Deyo encouraged the guild to grow the membership, inside and out. She would like the membership to grow in number and encourages existing guild members to solicit new members. She suggested advertising the guild in different ways, such as wearing a shirt or button with the CSQG logo printed or embroidered. Dane Ruser has the embroidery file for the logo; she will provide it in whichever format you need. The guild needs new flyers and cards that have the new meeting place. Sue said her vision is to grow the membership in numbers and for the members to grow in skills, interests, and sisterhood.

Happy Birthday June & July Quilters

Sue Deyo invited members who had June and July birthdays to come up and choose a “cupcake” to celebrate their birthdays. Bea Mehl and Daphne Hesters came up and the guild sang Happy Birthday.

Show & Tell

Members shared their beautiful works.

Tonight’s Program:  Acuquilt System

Bea Mehl introduced the guild to the Acuquilt system. She explained there are the Go-Baby, Go, Go Big (electric), and Studio 2 (commercial) cutting systems. Bea demonstrated the Go and Go Big cutters, explained the pros and cons of each, and discussed pricing of cutters and dies. Several quilt members have Acuquilt systems including Bea, Chris Sandstrom, and Dane Ruser and they all gave some feedback. Chris said she would bring hers for the Friday Fun Sew Stash-Buster on July 6th.

What’s in the Celephane?

Sue Deyo introduced a game that involved unwrapping a cellophane ball that contains “prizes.” She explained the rules and the guild members participated until the entire ball was unwrapped.

The meeting adjourned at 9:00pm.
