January 2018 Meeting Minutes

Country Star Quilt Guild Meeting Notes, January 2018

The meeting was called to order at 7 pm.

A motion was made to accept minutes from December meeting by Barbara and seconded by Karen Anderson.

Treasurers Report – Gail reported a $2,189.00 total for raffle quilt ticket sales.  $300 was donated to Pinky Promise.  A P.A. system was purchased and Nadine was reimbursed for decorations used at the Christmas meeting/potluck.

Membership Report by Sherry Curtis.  There were 34 members on meeting date with 2 new members added at January meeting.

Mary Ann went over dates for upcoming events.

01/12/18, Second Mystery Quilt Class at 10:00 – 1:00 at Hilliard Library.

01/13/18, Local Shop Hop begins and runs through 01/20/18.  Mary Ann explained the Shop Hop and showed a sample quilt.

01/16/18, Sit’n’Sew at Kelly’s RV Park at noon.

01/26/18, Mystery Quilt Class (Support Group) 10:00 – 1:00 at Hilliard Library

02/09/18, Mystery Quilt Support Group 10:00 – 1:00 at Hilliard Library

02/12/18, Quilt Guild Meeting at Hilliard Library, 6:30 fellowship and snacks, meeting begins at 7:00.

02/20/18, Sit’N’Sew at Kelly’s RV Park at noon.

Charity Report.  3 pillowcases brought to meeting.  Mary Ann will make up some kits with fabric donated by Miss Billie and with fabric purchased by Chris last year.

Pinky Promise – Michelle spoke about the Pinky Promise donation, which she delivered to Pinky Promise.  She talked to the group about what the gift will be used for and the grateful reaction to the gift.

Special Events and Projects – Chris talked about the Amelia Island Guild raffle quilt that she had tickets for at $2.00 each.  She explained that the Amelia Island Guild members were very generous in purchasing many tickets for our raffle quilt.  Members were encouraged to purchase a ticket for their raffle quilt.

Sandy Arcari won the Country Star Quilt Guild’s Raffle Quilt.

Santa’s Workshop total sales was $1,596.50 with 15% to school, $1,357.03 went to vendors.  The school also sold tickets for the raffle quilt and received 15% of their ticket sales.

02/17/18, 12:00 – 3:30 pm, Amelia Island Guild is having their Extravaganza with a national speaker coming in, Nancy Wines.  Nancy is a quilt instructor as well as an Antique Quilt Collector and will be talking about the evolution of quilting.  The Extravaganza will be held at the Fernandina Beach Recreation Center, where the quilt show was last year.  The tickets are $40 each and includes a very good boxed lunch.  This is a fundraiser for the Amelia Island Guild.  There will also be a Boutique and quilts for sale.  They will allow us to sell quilts and boutique items with 80% of the sales back to seller and 20% to the Amelia Island guild.

Many items were shared during Show and Tell.

Door prizes were presented.

Mary Ann read A Quilter’s New Year’s Resolution to the guild and went on to read a list of acronyms related to UFO’s.  The UFO challenge was explained with everyone receiving a UFO challenge form.  UFO winners will be chosen at the last meeting on June 11, 2018.

Mary Ann introduced the Executive Director of the Nest, Pam Mason-Nelson.  Pam talked to the guild about The Nest, an unplanned pregnancy center.  The Nest provides free pregnancy tests and ultrasounds, parenting classes and many other forms of support.  The women that take the classes offered by The Nest earn baby bucks.  The baby bucks are redeemable for items in the little on-site store at The Nest.  Pam thanked the guild for all the items donated to The Nest to be added to their store.
