April 2018 Meeting Minutes

April 2018 Meeting Minutes

The meeting was called to order at 7:06 pm by President Mary Ann Waite, who then led the group in a prayer.

A motion was made, seconded and approved to accept the March meeting minutes as posted on the guild’s website.

There was no Treasurers report.

The Membership chair reported that we now have 39 members.

Charity Projects:

  • President Mary Ann reported that we have completed 145 pillow cases to  date;  our goal is 300 so members need to continue to make them.
  • President Mary Ann also reported that to her knowledge there were no donations during the month to The Nest and asked that members consider making a small quilt.  If they will give it to her, she will quilt it.  Chris Sandstrom reported that she did do some small items for this charity.

After our business meeting, we will work on a “4 Patch Posey” activity.

Our President reminded everyone to work on their UFOs and to let Sandy and/or Sherry know when they bring them in.

The nominating committee is presenting the following slate of Officers and Committee Members for the 2018/2019 year:

Treasurer: Bea Mehl

Historian: Ramona Lee

Membership:  Sherry Curtis (assisted by Sandy Arcari)

Program Committee:  Linda Green , Betty Jeffreys, Sandy Acari, Chris Sandstrom

We still need a Charity Chairperson.

We will vote on these nominees at our May meeting.

New Business:

President Mary Ann advised that the Budget Committee needs to meet.  This committee consists of the current executive board, plus the Membership chairperson.  Barbara Ann Jackson offered her home to do so at a date to be determined.

Chris Sandstrom shared information about the Sisterhood of the Traveling Quilt, a bus trip to visit 8 quilt shops in central and north Florida, during 2 days, August 10-11.  The $225 cost includes the trip and 1 nights motel stay (double occupancy).  The participating quilt shops provide food.  Those interested can sign up at Cinnamon’s Quilt Shop in Jacksonville.

Chris also reported on the efforts to locate a meeting place for our guild for the future.  The Hilliard Library will not be available on Monday nights next year.  So, our options are to change our meeting night or find a new location for our meetings that is available on Monday nights.  She reported that she and the members of the search committee visited 1st Baptist Church in Hilliard to check out their facilities and found it to be ideal…… “checked off every box”.  According to Pastor Josh Tillman, the space is available on Monday evenings as well as Fridays for the Friday Sew-Ins, except when there might be a funeral or when the schools are using the space for testing.  He advised that church will allow us to use the space for no charge, considering it part of their community outreach ministry.

They also visited the Masonic Hall in Callahan, which was reported to be an adequate space, but is only available on Tuesday evenings.

A discussion ensued.  It was mentioned that if we decided to use the 1st Baptist space that we consider making a donation to them.

A motion was made to move the guild meetings to the 1st Baptist Church in Hilliard beginning with our June 2018 meeting.  The motion was seconded and unanimously approved with no further discussion.

President Mary Ann Waite then called the attention of the group to the guild calendar as shown on the agenda provided to members when they signed in.

Chris Sandstrom announced that at the May meeting, the members attending will be making baby quilts and passed around a box of precut windmill blocks for to members to take, complete and bring back next month.

The meeting then continued with a display of Show and Tells/ UFOs after which the drawings for door prizes and the 50/50 ($38 to the winner) was held.

Sandy Acari announced that there were 31 persons in attendance.

The meeting was adjourned for the planned Activity Time.

Respectfully  submitted,

Karen Anderson

Acting Secretary
