May 2018 Meeting Minutes
Country Star Quilt Guild Meeting Notes, May 2018
The meeting was called to order at 7 pm by Eileen Van Fossen, in place of Mary Ann Waite who was home with a family emergency.
Visitors were introduced and welcomed.
Secretary Report: April meeting minutes were approved with a motion made by Marsa and seconded by Sue Deyo.
Charity Report: 17 pillowcases brought to meeting. This brings our total pillowcase count to 170. There will be a pillowcase blowout on August 24.
Chris Sandstrom talked to us about surgical procedure hats for the Children’s Hospital. Materials needed are 20” circle of fabric and 16” ¼” elastic. There will be a Friday Fun Sew dedicated to making these surgical procedure hats on July 20.
The Board made a recommendation to make another fundraising quilt this year. Gail Bowen reported that last year the guild made $2,149.00 on the fundraiser quilt. The group discussed making a patriotic quilt. No design has been settled on yet. Eileen Van Fossen will be heading this project and is open to ideas for a pattern/design. The quilt will need to be finished by the first of October.
The Board has confirmed all nominations for the coming year.

Includes 8 quilt shop visits, hotel stay, and food provided by the quilt shops. A very fun trip. The trip leaves early on a Friday morning from Cinnamon’s Quilt Shop and returns on Saturday afternoon.
Many beautiful Show and Tell items were shared.
Door prizes were awarded.
Chris presented a tutorial on Scrap User System developed by Bonnie Hunter. Notice it is titled Scrap ‘User’, not Scrap ‘Saver’. Not much purpose in just saving scraps, but there is much benefit to be gained in using those scraps. Chris shared some scrappy quilts made using the Scrap User System.
Chris suggested purchasing fabric for the surgical procedure hats from WalMart as they will be a one-time use item.
Chris talked to the guild about more members taking on a Mystery Quilt by Bonnie Hunter in the next year.
Chris got the guild started on the pinwheel project. Four stations were set up and each guild member received a color-coded ticket that showed what station they were to go to. The pinwheel project was explained and the guild members got busy cutting and pinning blocks. There were sewists putting the squares together.
Meeting adjourned at 9:00.
