Country Star Quilt Guild Meeting Minutes
10/14/24
Call to Order
President Lori Frederick called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm.
Welcome
Lori welcomed everyone to the meeting. We have one new member, Barbara Jackson, and one visitor, Frankie Sherrill.
Charlotte Taylor led us in our devotion and prayer.
Announcements
- The NE Florida Fair runs thru October 20th. If you can help at the fair please let Peggy Smith know.
- We would like everyone to purchase raffle tickets in the amount of $20.00. Do not put your name on the ticket. You can place family members or friends names on your tickets!
- The Opportunity Quilt will be displayed at the Westside Journal office after the fair concludes.
- We already have a team working on next years Opportunity Quilt.
- Our next sit-N-sew will be October 25th, then November 8th at Callahan Masonic Lodge.
- The Quilt of Valor ceremony will be November 18th, 2024, at 7 PM at the Anchor Church. We will have refreshments in the fellowship hall afterwards. We need a head count of those planning to attend (for refreshment purchase). Please RSVP to Mary Sperow.
- Ginny Ackerman is making small quilts for hurricane relief. Please check with her if you would like to help.
Charities
- We will have our annual diaper drive for the Nest in December.
- Pinky Promise would like to have some “pocket hearts” if anyone is interested in making some.
- Lori has pillowcase kits available tonight. Elaine Wilkerson reported that we made 224 pillowcases September of 2023 thru August of 2024!
- We are now a group under the Quilt of Valor Foundation. We are known as the Country Star Quilters! Our area will include Nassau county and part of Duval county.
- We have a team working on the Lake City VA quilt for 2024 – 2025.
Block of Whatever
The patterns for this month are #6, 18, 48, and 55. They will be available on our Facebook page in a few days.
Programs – Sara Aicher
- The quilters that are participating in the quilters soup recipe jars are exchanging them tonight.
- You can turn in your sewing machine survey at the November meeting, and also your patriotic mug rugs.
- Martha Detscher will be leading our program in January in long arm quilting.
- For our December meeting, you can bring up to 3 ornaments to display.
Retreat
Eileen Van Fossen reported that we have 29 staying all week and one person attending daily.
The retreat is full, but there is a waiting list. (5) Air mattresses are needed if you can donate.
Meeting Program
Our program was presented by Carol Blanchard on Fabrics of Asia & Africa. She shared how the fabrics are made. She also had examples to show. These were things learned on her trip around the world!
October Birthdays
Our October birthdays are Patti Smith, Karen Hurst, Mary Murrer, Vicki Skahill, and Sara Aicher.
Door prizes were given out, and we had Show & Tell.
