2023 October Meeting Minutes

Country Star Quilt Guild Meeting Minutes October 9, 2023
Call to Order: President Lori Frederick opened the meeting at 6:47 PM.
Member Recognitions:
Lori welcomed the Life Guild members present tonight. She welcomed our visitor, Judy
Meyer, to the meeting.
Order of Business:
Housekeeping
– Sue Deyo volunteered to call 911 if needed.
– Darlene Cole stated she is available for first aid.
– Lori went over the procedures for locking the door when the meeting starts. If you
arrive late, call someone inside to allow entrance.
Other Items
– Lori asked if everyone read the September minutes. Corrections were made – Sara
Aicher’s name spelling and the dates of the fair.
– Lori stated that the deadline for members to join the guild was tonight.
– Show & tell should be draped over the chairs so everyone can see them.
– Opening prayer and devotion were led by Charlotte Taylor. She provided everyone
with a seam ripper & suckers!
Announcements:
– The next Sit-N-Sew will be Friday October 13 at the Masonic Lodge. Lori wants
everyone to work on a project for “Pinky Promise”.
– The Callahan fair is October 12-22. You should see Peggy Smith to sign up for shifts.
– There will be a quilt show at the Stephen Foster Center on October 20-21. You can
contact Andrea Thomas at 386-397-4478 for additional information concerning
entering a quilt or to offer help.
– Pillow case kits will be available at the end of the meeting. Please return them in a
timely manner.
– At the November meeting we will host a diaper drive for “The Nest”. You can bring
diapers size 3’s & 4’s, or other items (such as burp cloths, bibs, blankets, etc..)
– Large batting scraps are needed if you have surplus.
Programs:
– Sara Aicher talked about upcoming programs. She gave out flyers for the zoom
workshop on January 9th with Lisa Ruble and a workshop on March 12 with
Laura Heine representative. You can sign up with Peggy Smith.

– Sara stated we will have demonstrations once a month at Sit-N-Sew. October 7 will
be “Quilt asYou Go”. December 8th Ramona Lee will show us how to do a
sweatshirt jacket.
– Lori spoke about the Opportunity Quilt. Peggy still needs workers for the fair. You can
also get tickets from Peggy to sell.
BOM:
– You will need approx 30 fat quarters & 5 yards of fabric for background. Lori gave out
packets with the first 4 block patterns, and additional patterns for alternate blocks
and the next month’s blocks. Lori showed the first 4 blocks done in 12”, and 2
alternate blocks she had made.
Tonights Program:
– Lori did the program tonight on how to pick out colors for a quilt. She had multiple
pieces of fabric and demonstrated how each would coordinate for a quilt. Lori
gave everyone a copy of a color wheel and color harmony.
– Sara asked everyone to take a dish towel when they leave tonight, embellish it, and
bring back for the December meeting.. It should be wrapped in a 2 color fat
quarter.
– Sara asked everyone to list their 2 favorite colors on paper. She provided a chart with
the meaning of colors and your personalities. For example, if your color is magenta you

are free-spirited, creative, and enthusiastic. The website for information is – www.color-

– October birthdays were recognized. There are 7: Sara Aicher, Karen Hurst, Mary
Murrer, Ava Pitts, Vicki Skahill, Kim Williams.
– Door prizes were given out.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:07.
