Country Star Quilt Guild Meeting Minutes

Call to Order

President Lori Frederick called the meeting to order at 6:54 pm

Welcome

Everyone was greeted with a cheery “Welcome Back”.

Announcements

Lori went over the list of charities we support and the needs we can help supply as a guild member.

Quilt of Valor

Our goal for the 2025-2026 year is 25 quilts completed. We will have a booth at the fair to help spread the word about this organization. Lori encouraged members to reach out to the community as well to increase exposure.

Pinky Promise

Our goal for this year is to provide 25 pocket hearts.

Other needs include; Seat belt buddies- (By Annie has pattern for this); Rice shoulder pads; Port pillows and sleep masks. All of these items may be turned in at guild meetings.

The Nest

We will participate in their Baby Bottle Blessings fundraiser. This runs from Mother’s Day to Father’s Day. Plastic baby bottles will be provided that should be filled with coins, cash and/or checks.  Our goal for this year will be to also provide 25 pocket hearts in pink or blue. Other needs include the following items: Diapers, especially sizes 4,5 & 6; wipes, burp cloths, pacifiers, baby clothes,  as well as maternity clothes.

 

Ryans Case for Smiles

Our guild provided 213 pillowcases for the 2024-2025 guild year. The goal for this year is 250.

This charity supplies pillowcases to the following locations: Nemours & Wolfson Children’s Hospital, PedsCare Children’s Hospice and recently added Ronald McDonald House in Jacksonville. In addition to these they also serve Halifax Health and Advent Health in Daytona.

New Member Info

Our website has information for the following:  Meeting & Sit N Sew dates, photo gallery of monthly show’ n tell, forms that can be downloaded and our Member Directory.  A password is required for access to the directory. You will be given the password information after dues are paid. (This password is changed each year). And so much more. Keeping the website updated is a process. Please USE it.  Door prize tickets are given out for the following: Attendance; name tag; bringing a guest; show & tell items and donations. One ticket is awarded for each item.

Fair Booth

Callahan fair is Oct 9-19th 2025. We will be selling tickets for our raffle quilt. Please contact Peggy Smith to volunteer.

Retreat

Our retreat will be Feb 24th – 28th 2026 at the Suwannee River Eco-Lodge, Fargo, Ga. Bonnie Cressey has graciously volunteered to head up our retreat. She has registration forms available. Cost is still $275.00, and each attendee will be responsible for providing their own meals. The guild will provide a delicious dessert each evening. For our Right-Left-Center game please bring 2 fat quarters of 1930’s-1940’s reproduction fabrics along with 1 fat quarter off white fabric.

Programs    

Sara Aicher presented an overview of programs scheduled for this year’s meetings.

The meeting for October will provide a look at Machine Maintenance presented by Daniel Ward.

Each month will feature a “Start Up” topic and members are encouraged to bring items related to the topic to discuss prior to the start of the meeting. October Startup Topic is Baby/Juvenile Quilts.

Each month Sara will ask 1-3 people to provide information about themselves to share with the members, This will include, Name- when and how you started your quilting journey, what you like most and your biggest challenge. September’s spotlight was on Elle Boette.

 

Guild Challenge

This will be spearheaded by Carol Blanchard. The goal is to challenge members to show their creativity.  November 10th is the deadline to register for this challenge, and all rules are provided on the registration form.  Please register even if you are not sure, after this date registration is closed.

 

Other Items of Interest

Two handouts were distributed by Lori.

“What do YOU want to Learn?”  A workshop questionnaire to be completed and returned at our October meeting.

2025-2026 challenge spreadsheet. Consists of various quilting related activities.  These will be turned in at our May 2026 meeting. Each member checks off the blocks as they complete the task throughout the year.

Birthdays for September were recognized: Carol Blanchard, Gail Bowen, Karen Beaumont, Lynne Pomerleau, Lisa Maechtlen, and Peggy Smith.

 

Door prizes were given out and we had Show N Tell.

We were reminded about Quiltfest  September 18th-20th. Several guild members have entered pieces this year.

Sit N Sews are Sept 12th & 26th.  Our October meeting is the 13th.

Lori adjourned the meeting at 8:12 pm.
