March 13, 2023

President Peggy Smith called the meeting to order at 6:52 p.m.  She introduced Jeannie Gilreath who was our guest at the meeting.

Devotion/Prayers- Nadine Lloyd shared a reading from Genesis and a poem by Helen Steiner Rice and then offered a prayer.

Secretaries Report:  Lynnette Talak February 2023 –  Gail Bowen made a motion that the February Minutes be accepted as posted; Sue Deyo seconded the motion.  The motion was unanimously approved.

Treasurers Report was presented by Samantha Howell.  A motion was made by Holly Yurchison and seconded by Kathy Waldron to approve as presented.  The motion was unanimously carried.

Birthdays for the Month:  Chris Sandstrom, Holly Yurchison and Karen Anderson.

President Peggy informed members that funds are available for members to be reimbursed for materials used to create charity projects for Pinky Promise, the Nest, Ryan’s Cases for Smiles and Bring your Brokenness Throws.

President Peggy then advised that she has tentatively reserved the ECO-Lodge at Stephen Foster for our 2024 retreat but moved the dates forward one (1) week to 2/27/2024 – 3/2/2024 so as not to conflict with the Daytona Quilt Show.  She advised that that the price for the Lodge would be “about the same”.  She informed that the ECO –Lodge has not raised their price in 3 years but that if they did increase it was not expected to be very much.  That price has allowed us to keep the price of the retreat at $275 for the past 3 years for the 4 night/5 day span.  By comparison, Holly contacted Epworth by the Sea and was told that their rate was $389 for 3 night/4 days, however that rate did include 3 meals per day.  A discussion followed after which Ellie Boette made a motion to return to the ECO Lodge for our 2024 rally.  The motion was seconded by Eileen Van Fossen.  The motion was unanimously approved.  President Peggy stated that she would get back in contact with the ECO-Lodge to confirm our reservation for 2/27/2024 – 3/2/2024.

Volunteers Needed:

The subject of this year’s Opportunity Quilt was introduced by President Peggy and she elaborated on how important it was to the guild and asked for volunteers to head up the project.  Ellie Boette and Lisa Maechtlen volunteered to co-chair the project.

The topic of the VA Quilt was also brought up and discussed.  No one volunteered to lead be in charge of this project, but Dell Dunham volunteered to quilt it.  Lori Phares informed the group that the quilt will need to be finished in time to present it to the VA Hospital in September.

President Peggy informed that she and Karen Anderson comprised the Nominating Committee for 2023-24 officers and that we need members to seriously consider volunteering for these important jobs that are crucial to the continued existence of our guild.

At our final meeting of the year in June, we will again have a potluck dinner.  Sue Deyo volunteered to keep track of who is coming and what they are bringing.

It was asked if the guild would be having another Quilts of Valor Program next November.  President Peggy deferred the subject to next year’s board.

Sara Aicher informed the group that the time period for entries to the Jacksonville Quiltfest being held next September is April 1 – July 25, 2023.  She encouraged members to enter, expressing that she thought there is a great deal of talent and ability in our guild and that we should be represented.

President Peggy requested input regarding who should be allowed to the guild’s Facebook page, saying that she has received requests for acceptance from individual’s with no apparent connection to our group.   After several minutes of discussion, Samantha Howell made a motion that access to the guild’s Facebook page should be closed; i.e. available to members only.  Gail Bowen seconded the motion.  The motion was unanimously approved.

Door prizes were awarded by Bonnie Creasy.

Marina Thomason presented an interesting program about Color Hue Dying.  She had lots of beautiful examples.

Following Show & Tell, the meeting was adjourned at 8:30 p.m.

Respectfully submitted:
